Puerto Rico is first Miss Grand International winner; Philippines finishes fourth

Puerto Rico’s Janelee Chaparro was crowned the first Miss Grand International in gliterring ceremonies in Thailand tonight. She bested 70 other candidates from around the world to become the pageant’s ambassadress to stop war and conflict.

Chaparro previously competed in Miss World 2011 in Ordos, Inner Mongolia where she failed to make it to the Top 15. As the inaugural winner, Chapparo wins US$30,000 cash prize and a new apartment in downtown Bangkok during her reign.

Completing the winners’ circle are:

  • First runner-up: Chantel Martinez of Dominican Republic
  • Second runner-up: Denisa Paseciakova of Slovak Republic
  • Third runner-up: Ali Forbes of the Philippines
  • Fourth runner-up: Kelly Louise Maguire of Australia

The following girls made it to the Top 10 but failed to make it to the Q&A round:

  • Brazil, Tamara Bicca
  • Cuba, Jamillette Gaxiola
  • Latvia, Kristīne Rancāne
  • Sri Lanka,  Danielle Kerkoven
  • Venezuela, Mariana Jimenez

Meanwhile, completing the Top 20 are:

  • China, Jie Pan
  • Colombia,Carolina Gonzalez Betancourth
  • Ecuador, Sulay Castillo
  • Macedonia,Sandra Stefanovska
  • Myanmar, Htar Htet Htet
  • Netherlands, Talisa Wolters

Miss Myanmar was named Miss Popular Vote. Miss Dominican Republic won Best in Evening Gown, Miss Latvia was Best in Swimsuit, while Miss China won Best in National Costume.
