Former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear and her partner Thomas Henry Berry were shot dead on Monday night by a group of thugs after their car broke down in Carabobo, Venezuela, according to reports. Their five-year-old daughter was severely wounded but is reportedly out of danger now.
The family was waiting for repair to arrive in the Puerto Cabello-Valencia motorway when Spear, 29, and Berry, 49, were shot dead. Reports claim that the motive for the murder was the theft of the car.
Spear, US-based actress and model, was in Venezuela for a vacation. She won the Miss Venezuela 2004 pageant and represented the country in Miss Universe the following year where she finished fourth runner-up.
“Violent crime has been Venezuelans’ No. 1 concern in recent years. Awash with guns, the South American nation is one of the world’s most violent, with an official homicide rate of about 52 per 100,000 people [in 2012], or more than 15,000 victims,” reported Reuters.
