Bb Pilipinas 2014: The crossover ladies

FROM MUTYA TO BINIBINI. Ednornance Agustin, Emma Mary Tiglao and Gabrielle Erika TIlokani

BEFORE Ariella Arida gave the Philippines its fourth consecutive top 5 placement in Miss Universe, did you know that her first foray into beauty pageants was luckless?

Ariella first joined Miss Philippines Earth in 2012, representing Alaminos, Laguna, but she failed to make as a finalist. She then decided to try her luck in Binibining Pilipinas, this time with a healthier body and better styling, and as they say the rest is history.

Just like her, some of this year’s candidates also joined other national pageants. Some of them made it as far as runners-up, while some didn’t even make it as finalists. But this didn’t stop them from pursuing their dreams. Let’s meet them.

‘Women of the Earth’

Miss Philippines Earth (MPE) 2013 was a neck-and-neck battle between Kimverlyn Suiza (Binibini 15) and Angelee Delos Reyes. The then pageant neophyte Kimverlyn lost the crown to the veteran and settled for a runner-up finish. This didn’t let her pageant spirit run dry. She underwent a “make-over” and surprised everyone with her fierce look during the Bb Pilipinas screening. Kimverlyn worked as a segment producer for variety show Eat Bulaga. Touted as one of the girls to beat, can Kimverlyn finally win a crown this time?

Other candidates who tried it out in MPE are UST graduate Sarah Jireh Asido (Binibini 10), computer engineering student Krystal Alonday (Binibini 36) and nursing graduate Janine Asanion (Binibini 38).
