A deaf-mute student, whose life story has been featured in the GMA-7 drama anthology “Magpakailanman”, is among the official candidates of the Queen of the Philippines 2014 beauty contest.

“I have a dream. Pangarap ko pong maging beauty queen. Gusto kong ma-inspire ang mga deaf-mute na tulad ko na sana malaman nila na hindi hadlang yung kalagayan naming para maabot ang mga pangarap,” Pura was quoted by Manila Bulletin when asked why she joined the pageant.
The rest of the candidates are Janice Jane Flores, Randeth Adriano, Alpha Maria Dumlao, Rowena Sasuluya, Karen Barot, Ma. Ruela Lopez, Cielo Claravall, Lyka Antonette Johnson, Sheila Ebuen, Frances Ruth Constantino, Cariemae Fajardo, Camille Laylay, Marie Rose Cajayon, Shaira Angelic Cudia, Mikee Lasig, Emerkliezel Lu, Jezalyn Garcia, Maureen Grace Usacdin, Cristel Mercado, Guillen Diaz, Lea Gutierrez, and Michelle Alegre.
